FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions, Answered

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Since each person is unique, the number of treatments required will vary. Sometimes changes can be felt after only a few visits, while others may require more visits and the effects felt less rapidly. Usually weekly or even twice weekly treatment sessions are best at the start. Your treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you at the first session and kept under review.

WHY WOULD I FALL ASLEEP DURING ACUPUNCTURE?

One of the purposes of acupuncture is to help your body re-establish harmony, and returning to harmony is profoundly relaxing. The needles are left in for 20 to 40 minutes, and that's enough time to let go of the cares of the day and nap lightly or even fall asleep.

IS IT SAFE?

Acupuncture has a very sound track record. You may sometimes feel tired after a session, and occasionally minor bruising may occur from the needles. However all such reactions are short-lived. All needles are sterile and are never re- used. Before a treatment you should avoid alcohol, and have a light meal. It is important that you always advise of any medications that you are taking.

WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO TRAVEL TO THE CLINIC?

Treatments can be offered in the comfort of your own home for an additional £10, especially for debilitating ailments which can severely limit your mobility, (for example, chronic pain, depression and anxiety, and age-related disabilities). This service is limited to a 6-mile radius of the Lisburn clinic (for example, Hillsborough, Dromore, Annahilt, Moira, Ballinderry, and Drumbo areas).
